Surf Instructors in Leadership Training

Our third year of our summer leadership program is here! We are so excited to help you reach your goals in your career, as surfers and leaders in your community. This is a very special and competitive program through City Surf Project and we encourage all students involved in our programming to apply! You do not need to be an expert surfer, just have a willingness to learn and gain new skills! Students in our public school partnerships at Leadership High School, Mission High School, Ida B. Wells, Independence, Lowell, Thurgood Marshall, and John O’Connell High Schools will have priority. We will accept applications from students at other schools including private schools but spots for these students will be more limited.

The SILT 2019 program will be a cohort of 10 high school students who have participated with City Surf Project at least once. You must be entering into your sophomore year of high school. Students who are in the graduating class of 2019 may also apply. All applicants must be 18 or under through August 2, 2019. All students must live and go to school in San Francisco. You will gain outdoor leadership skills, lifeguarding skills, CPR training, assist with surf instructing, and be part of the CSP team for summer 2019. Upon fulfilling the educational training program requirements SILT’s will receive a $1,000 stipend. The week of SILT training is from June 8th – June 13th, in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and Half Moon Bay State Beach. 

 

Overview

What are the Qualifications?

  • Participated with City Surf Project at least once
  • Must be able to swim comfortably in the ocean
  • Must have some knowledge of surfing and surf equipment
  • Must be in high school entering grades 10th-12th (can be a graduating senior)
  • Must be 18 or under through August 2019
  • Must be familiar with and exemplify the three pillars of City Surf Project
  • Must live and go to school in San Francisco

What is the Time Commitment?

  • Mandatory parent meeting Sunday June 2nd
  • Mandatory CPR/First Aid training day (TBD) June 5th – 7th
  • Mandatory week of training June 8th- June 13th Saturday – Thursday overnight
  • Be at 3 weeks minimum of summer camp as a surf instructor
  • SILT Celebration Camping Week – July 30th- August 1st
  • SILT Graduation Ceremony & Dinner – all family members invited- Friday August 2nd

Attend Training ( June 8th - June 13th)

Mandatory outdoor training for all SILTS starts June 8th - June 13th in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Half Moon Bay State Park.
