The volunteer training was an incredible day of community building, learning and growing as a volunteer team! Our instructors Olivia, Johnny, Hunter and Forest lead different parts of the day and loved seeing everyone get on boards in the whitewater at Ocean Beach on Rivera St. to practice pushing each other into waves.
Olivia lead a great icebreaker and training on unconscious bias and trauma informed youth development that was such a great and insightful conversation with the group.
The portion of going back to the van to learn about wetsuits, equipment and our protocol was great- lead by Johnny and Forest- as volunteers got to understand our order of operations!
Then back on the beach Hunter helped lead the stance on a surfboard, how to paddle out and how to have a very safe one on one session with a student! Woohoo! Our after party at Hunter’s house ended with food and drinks and it was awesome to bond with everyone!
